mk n km: 2nd home

December 2nd, 2005 by mrskakashi

mk and km have decided to re locate their homes, finishing the construction of their new spanking apartment at blogger.

http://mk-n-km.blogspot.com/

Housewarming gifts are encouraged. Preferably in cash. =P

Of course they will still retain the use of this house, most probably to hide from the loansharks which are after them.

Oh, have I mentioned that cash gifts would be appreciated?

Hmm, friday was really a big mix of colours. Made me rethink my obligations, expectations and responsibilities as a member of my class, as a rep of my class, and as a friend and other ppl’s expectations of me.

Sometimes I wonder about the consequences of writing down my life and happenings and my thoughts on them. That if I write things down in my perspective, I wld only be the one who knows the nature of my thoughs in the exact manner. It also means, what I never write may be taken as what I never consider, while I could have done so just that it is simply too tiring to write everything down.

I dont think the repercussions of wrting them down wld see me fighting a lawsuit or stuff like that. I believe most bloggers dont have such issue. It is just that blogs have become extensions, projections of our identity, and not something which to me, was to serve as a reflection of my thoughts and true personality. It dont think it means we have to fake ourselves unless we have been trying to fake our personality all along, but more in the sense that, just as we have to show consideration to other ppl’s thoughts, feelings in real life, we have to do so on our blogs too.

Plenty of times, one can see that there will be different sides of stories. GP is a good reflection of reality. Much as there are black and white areas, we would usually have to be in the grey ones. Why? It is because, usually, logically, both sides would have compelling reasons for their stands. So one would feel compelled to show the 2 sides of the argument.

Which pretty much negates the logic to write out what my perspective is. I still can, but at the risk of sounding inconsiderate. I already know that I can be very harsh with my words when I am speaking in the past, but I am trying to not it extend my writing. So wierd, I think it usually applies to people in the reverse.

I have seen people’s contents change as more and more people begin reading their posts. I think it is time to redefine what I want my blog to be. This has always been somewhere where it is supposed to be abstract writing. They mean something, but I dont let exact details of my thoughts be revealed. At least, km is supposed to be like that. mk is something closer to reality I would say, where things are more direct ba. This is why symbolism and the use of metaphors is more obvious in km’s entries. I write for literary expression. Just different moods, different posts I guess.

Written so much yet nothing is about what is bothering me. Maybe I will just swallow them down and spit out the poison in yet another unpublished entry ba.

All the poison rolling around, turning the areas they touched purple and brown. Decomposition immediately takes place, till the whole of the heart is devoured by all the uneaten emotions.

Fuck.

mk: long week

November 26th, 2005 by mrskakashi

Waha, has been a long week. Spending almost everyday going out with friends is almost enough to sent me screaming to do homework cox I am feeling guilty about slacking so much. I think some workaholic freak residing in my body is gona take Over my brain and tie me to a chair and force me to study soon. Gah. On a brighter note, I am thinking that with PW gone from my life forever, I have been having a lot fewer rocker induced concerts (yay!). What has taken its place however, hmm, seems to make me rather have PW instead. Sigh, this is what happens, your unused brain space (frm pw) goes looking for something to freak out over. Sigh. Mental turmoil or headaches. It is a toss up choosing man.

Oh well. With the movie outing cancelled, thanks to an overwhelming complex load of obligations to another grp of ppl, and an underwhelming number of movie watchers, I spent monday hanging out watching swing girls with yj n liyanah. I had lunch with yj ay pizza hut and I wld say it was one of the most lunch like lunch I had during the week le, considering tt the rest of the lunches of the week saw me eating ( and spitting out ) sushi with cleverly concealed wasabi, cup noodles, lunch in an academic minefield at NYP, and plain white bread. Sigh, it was great meeting up with old friends. =) Swing girls made me miss band all over again!! Sigh..

Tuesday was spent thronging Bugis. Gah. It is really different to working with another bunch of ppl for such design stuff. Made me wanted to remember what jas and I once discussed in pastamania.. Sigh, miss u babe. =) I think a lot of times creative sparks depend on who you work with ba. Erm, lets see, there was  Ali, Doreen and Weiss. Eh, we went past this hotel which had decorated the front pillars and another little shack with apparently real baked dough. Yes, so the overall look was the gingerbread house like the one in Hansel and Gretel. Haha, Doreen and Ali actually took photos with it. =) Hmm, didnt go into Kino though. Sigh I should have!! OH!! And I saw this really really really adorable ring!! It is has a timepiece on it so it looks like a watch to be worn on a finger!! Oh man, it was so cute la!!! *squeals* I was so tempted… And I knew had I stepped into Kino I would be a doomed person. I wld have stayed there and wandered about the entire day le..

Which reminds me. Hmm, The Drum would be having new TICs next yr. Apparently they will be changed every like 2 yrs so that the teachs can experience being in charge of diff. kinds of ccas. I heard that Mr Tong volunteered to take the drum again but was not allowed to. The most disturbing news were that we may not be able to go buy new materials next yr, meaning that next yr’s borrowing materials may see boring books and vcds which would never be borrowed. While doing stockchecking, we found loads of vcds etc, those viewing materials which well meaning teachers have insisted on using the library’s money to buy yet remianed so long on the shelf that they literally had a layer of dust over them. No joke leh, cox they were really that dusty that a unfortunate fellow librarain was tasked with the unglamorous task of wiping each and every disk with a cloth. Can you believe it?! And some were about China’s tourists spots, or primary 5 level "train your grammar" cds?!

Ok, on a fairer note, it depeneds how do the TICs want to promote the library’s image ba. If they want to increase the borrowing rate and the frequency of usage of library’s media resources, I wld say that well, we cant be an information powerhouse at the same time. This means not that we would have to dedicate some resources to being spent on stuff for entertainment, if possible then go for informative entertainment etc. Aiyah, will see what happens next yr first ba. What am I ranting about lo.. whatever.

Whee! What a fright I had after reading yj’s blog. My goodness, it was absoultely ghastly! She did too good a job le. *shivers* I got this from http://onceuponasmile.blogspot.com. I find it really interesting that someone actually started a site on this and kept up the update. Heehee, enjoy!

Job interviews

Vice Presidents and personnel directors of the one hundred largest corporations were asked to describe their most unusual experience interviewing prospective employees.

  • A job applicant challenged the interviewer to arm wrestle.
  • One interviewee wore a Walkman, explaining that she could listen to the interviewer and the music at the same time.
  • How it is possible to fall and break an arm during a job interview I will never know, but one candidate managed it.
  • A very hungry candidate announced she hadn’t had lunch and proceeded to eat a hamburger and french fries in the interviewer’s office.
  • One ambitious candidate explained that her long-term goal was to replace the interviewer.
  • There was one candidate who explained that he never finished high school because he had been kidnapped and kept in a closet in Mexico.
  • Then there was the balding candidate who excused himself and returned to the office a few minutes later wearing a headpiece.
  • Asked how he would demonstrate his loyalty to the company, one applicant volunteered to have the corporate logo tattooed on his forearm.
  • One very nervous applicant interrupted the interview to phone her therapist for advice on how to answer specific interview questions.
  • Another candidate brought a very large dog to his interview.
  • Then we have the applicant who refused to sit down and insisted on being interviewed standing up.
  • And another who dozed off during his interview.

What Is It I Am Doing Here Again?

The employers were also asked to list the "most unusual" questions that have been asked by job candidates.

  • "What is it that you people do at this company?"
  • "What is the company motto?"
  • "Why aren’t you in a more interesting business?"
  • "What are the zodiac signs of all the board members?"
  • "Why do you want references?"
  • "Do I have to dress for the next interview?"
  • "I know this is off the subject, but will you marry me?"
  • "Will the company move my rock collection from California to Maryland?"
  • "Will the company pay to relocate my horse?"
  • "Does your health insurance cover pets?"
  • "Would it be a problem if I’m angry most of the time?"
  • "Does your company have a policy regarding concealed weapons?"
  • "Do you think the company would be willing to lower my pay?"
  • "Why am I here?"

mk: Why does water come in so many shades of blue?

November 22nd, 2005 by mrskakashi

Up for some facts crunching? There was this Foxtrot comic which showed Jason Fox running around the playground thinking about (gasp) physics and math formulas. The last box showed him saying, "Even summer holidays need a school break"

Hehheh, and somwhat of an answer to the above question comes from this book of the collections of Outside magazine’s "The Wild File" sections titled "Why moths hate Thomas Edison?"

The reason is because "Water transmits and scatters blue better than any other colour … As it passes deeper into the ocean, sunlight grows progressively bluer as as other colours are absorbed. In general, deep clear water looks the bluest, especially under a bright blue sky. If you have shallow water over a sandy bottom, it’ll reflect white and green light, giving an azure colour. In overcast weather, the sea will turn a slate blue, the results of reflection of clouds. And phytoplankton suspended in water gives it a greenish blue."

Hmm, unfortunately, I dont think the physics assginment has this question. However, I am sure, it is gona be painful doing it. Arghhhhhhhh…………..

km: innocence of a being

November 22nd, 2005 by mrskakashi

On the train home today, I passed a school field which is muddy from all the raining today. First thing which struck me, "it is so pretty". It is so wierd. I think a muddied field overflowing with brownish water doesnt immediately inspire aesthetic pleasantness. But it was really wierd. It looked so pretty, so fresh, so .. breathtaking, in its sudden creation by the downpour.

It is like a flower peering up again after the raindrops have removed their heavy weight on its petals.

So the movement so fresh, like the sleepy awakening of a flower opening n unfolding its petals.

The colours so vibrant, after the dust and grime have been washed off.

One can almost hear the first breath of air the plant is taking in. The crisp crunch of the scent of the leaves.

It is almost enough to remind one that, a battle fought with determination and valor is a battle with oneself won.

It is almost enough to wipe out all the ugliness in the world. Just like how a parent feels when their precious bundle of joy smiles up from their arms into their eyes. They would do their best to keep their child safe forever.

So we keep fighting all the bad evil demons in the world. So that my pretty flower can keep growing and smiling for me everyday.

km: bitter realisation under coffee influence

November 20th, 2005 by mrskakashi

Is honesty all that good? I think a little tact and sensitivity should be used to flavour it so that the sharp twang of honesty can be dulled a little and so that other more subtle flavours can shine through. But I really appreciate those friends whom I can be totally honest with when we are discussing something. At least in words. Because I found out this year that whatever one types, it can either be misinterpreted or that the reader cant catch on to the subtle naunces. So certain blogs or rather prose, make for great reading because the prose is deceptively cut off from reality or is abstract enough to not let one feel as if they are talking about certain things though they can be. Then there are blogs which are honestly clean because it was written not to reveal about the writer’s emotions anyway.

Back to honesty. I think that honesty may very well just be an excuse now. Feel like it is an easier way out than being considerate of other people’s feelings. So tired that everyday is like a battle. Even if I am armoured, the weight of it is really a burden, knowing that I am trying to be apathetic and indifferent. But I know I wont be able to achieve that. I have always put myself down as someone who is analytical instead of emotional when it comes to making decisions. But I dont know, just woke up feeling that it has been a giant lie, or disillusionment on my part. Was told that I can be kinda straightforward at times. In the past, I think it was necessary cox, well, I think back then, if one doesnt state what they are saying clearly there is a chance that it will mutate and something will blow up in the school. It is also because yj was with me. In this case, it is because, I trust her enough to actually let her see how I think and feel. Never had to pretend abt something. And cox we think differently, whenevr we discuss stuff, she always provide some diff perspectives which helps. That was a major stability in my life.

So I would say that because of going into JC to a place which I would say is highly untable, being honest now is a means of defence. It is something like, now no one cant blame me for not saying the truth. but like everyone has discovers, or at least from what I observed, being honest and brutally honest is different. So I think, being honest means not colouring the fact with words which suggest partiality or even worse, just go straight ahead and throw out insults or even well meaning advice ba.

Sigh. I think I will get over this before the day ends. Right now, coffee getting cold and bitter. Is it the taste of reality or the taste of defeat to one’s demons?

km: Jump In!

November 20th, 2005 by mrskakashi

I am reading through Mark Burnett’s biography titled "Jump In! Even if you dont know how to swim."

It is a really absorbing read because the book actually takes us through the production of 3 very familar shows audiences all over the world is exposed to, namely Survivor, Eco-Challenge and The Apprentice. All the behind the scenes efforts Burnett has poured into these productions were described and those experiences blew me away.

Apart from drawing from the experiences he had gained from the productions which he applied to his later and other productions, Burnett’s experience from being a paratrooper in the British Army, Parachute Regiment. What the Parachute Regiment wanted were leaders " to think outside the box, and( they) had highly unusual methods of teaching and training them" to do so.

So I shall now quote some of his descriptions of the tasks the members were given. I would say they are intriguingly ingenious. "I was stripped of my insignia, identification, and money, and this time I was ordered to get the signature of the conductor of that evening’s orchestra concert at Covent Garden. " Other tasks given were to "find a way to make it from their base in western England to a commando base hundreds of miles away in Nothern Scotland by the following Sunday. (It was a Friday). He made it there, by "stowing away on a train, hitching some rides, and even convincing a restaurant to feed (him) for free."

His regimental mate was told to "make his way to London overnight and return by 8am with a copy of that morning’s Times. Not only did that require getting the paper hot off the press, he must also get the paper signed by the editor in chief. Yet another seemingly impossible task: To travel to Heathrow Airport and returned by morning with that day’s Concorde menu (it changes daily) signed by the plane captain. (Mark Burnett, 2005, Jump In!, Ballentine Books, NY)

"The point of the exercises were simple: Be resourceful. Get results. Do what it takes." Which made me wonder, after being provoked into thought by a ST article (What S’pore’s next generation holds, Nov 19, 2005, ST), if real life, no-safety-net-and-second-chances situations are what we need to force youths to think out of the box and to be resourceful.

Hmm, eyes are feeling tired. Shall stop here and go take a break. I had wanted to continue my discussion with myself on the pros and cons and the possiblities of revamping the educational system with reference to the ST article. But it involes me aving to take a diplomatic and two sided approach. It sort of means writing a GP essay (the horror!! ) So haha, I shall not do tt la.

Anyway, I would like to recommend"Jump In!" It is an entertaining and inspiring read. It certainly opens up Burnett’s life and the amazing trials and tribulations will surely make one realise that producing Survivor is no mean feat! Hmm, dont think my recommendation sounds good enough, ah whatever. =) Off to play~

mk: superstars-struck

November 19th, 2005 by mrskakashi

Shall write about my day today first then maybe I will write abt my trip to M’sia. Went down to j8 with CMH today to watch the School Project Superstar. Quoth CMH, it is to "laugh at them". We wound up standing at the open plaza for more than 4hrs straight. There were quite a lot of people there. For the TV and singing personalities, (i refuse to use the word "celebrities" or "stars" ) there were Jeff Wang, Zhou Chou Qing, Peifen, Jamie Teo, JunYang!! Kelly!! Xin Huey!! Derrick, William, Sugiato (not the winner of the competition though) .

It was pretty interesting cox the participants have to turn up in sch uniform. There were a lot of participants from neighbourhood schools. It is kinda mean to label all of them together like that but I cant really know how else to descibe the situation le. There were some of them which were really good. Got abit of xing1 wei4. Well, of course there are a couple of surprises too. There was this RJC gal whom was in the queue and there were those Mediacorp ppl who went and said hi to her, it was like they knew her.. So me n CMH were like.. hmm.. "RJC one v influential ah" But when she went up to sing, she was pretty good and she made it thru lo. I would say she was one of those experienced singer le de.

Unfortunately some other RJ gal in the later of the day didnt made it. CMH sounded reaaallll disappointed that she didnt make it. Right. =)

There are periods when students of the same sch kept going up cox they all signed up together. There were 2 pairs of twins consecutively lo! From same sch somemore. I think is YCKSS. The twins get to sing next to each other. 1st pair didnt make it. The 2nd pair veerryy zai!! Both sang cliche songs. When the elder sis said she was singing Yi shi de mei hao, the crowd groaned at first. After 2 bars, everyone was like shocked by how powerful her voice sounded n by her moving to the song. Someone began cheering n the crowd roared!! Then the second one said she is gona sing Dang ni and every one were like stunned n excited cox these two songs were really really sang oftenly and usually badly too. But she (she sounded slightly like her sis ) held her own too, and the crowd was like "both should get in" "they better get in" those kind of thing, we were like cheering all the way when the judges asked them to sing a duet lo (kinda like just for the sake of showing off their singing prowress n getting more footage of good singers -P) !! Wah, so zai rite?! They were interviewed by Junyang n Sugi b4 tt cox they were half of the 2pair of twins frm the same sch taking part together ma, then after going off stage they got interviewed again. OMG. And they wore matching hairbands(pink) n pouches(1pink n 1gray) too lo. Mini sized. Very cool. =)

And after like inching our way forward to the stage and sideways (to the cordoned area where the contestants n hosts are) I wound up less than 1m from the cordoned area, which made for great ogling of the superstars!! It is kinda wierd to want to describe the whole day’s event so I guess I will mention this highlight. (or rather, erm, a situation which caught my attention)

3 ANDERSONIANS TOOK PART.

Oh come on, we already know the answer. All didnt make it. One was even worse, less than 3 bars and the buzzer sounded. I thought they looked rather nervous and everything. And the pinafore which reached past their knees and the belt which seem to encircle their midthigh sure didnt do much for their image either. Sigh. See! Mr Ang was doing us a favour when he caught us for wearing loose belts!! =p

Wow. Finding myself in a singing mood. Dead tired. Standing there and going "tehhhh" like a buzzer along with the crowd whenever a participant sings off key was fun but exhausting and a little depressing sometimes. Haha, the crowd at 12-2 plus was cool lo. They cheered, and were having fun and everything. Then everyone was ok with each other and were like talking n chatting. The excitement was pretty palpable too, whenever the stars walked by, n when we hear a good singer. There were times when everyone was cheering wildly n clapping n we can see the singer got a boost of that n they got even better. Very high!! I like that period best. Got to see the superstars, the crowd abience was great. Aiyah. Lazy to put in words, cant even begin to mention what made it so fun then, so just 4 words : Great atmosphere, great vibes!

So, here’s a list of the most commonly sung songs.

Yi shi de mei hao by Angela Chang (I heard that like 10++ times) Argh!!!!

Dang ni by Cyndi (It caught up in the later part of the day, 10++) Argh!!!

JJ’s songs

Guardian Angel by JunYang

All in all, it was amazing seeing ppl work up their courage to sing and move to theie beat. To follow their dream. And to retire gracefully even when they did not make it through. Man, I am so high now. Whoo!~~~

This is for all those who stepped up into the spotlight!

Three cheers and four times hooray, Hip hip hooray! =)

mk: get me a property agent!

November 17th, 2005 by mrskakashi

Was experimenting with Blogger’s blogs and their skins. Feeling very sorry for Friendster’s blogs. Thanks to people who share their blogskins creations, people like me who know zilch about all those stuff actually can have a nice looking blog. Whee! Am thinking that maybe I can switch over to Blogger instead. Hmm, stil thinking, cox I am lazy to change over leh. This would mean that I will start obsessing about how my blog looks and stuff. Eeekk. And I already am having enough problems with what I write le. Have to split my thoughts up and stuff. So ma2 fan2!! Aiyerh. And I really cant make it for computers n stuff. But I can get my thoughts a new home! With nice little garden and pond and frilly curtains! Ok I shld stop tt. =P

Since this is just somewhere for me to do some creative writing and some thoughts and everything, hmm, duno leh. There is something about well designed blogs that make me have different expectations of them. Aiyah, getting hadache again le. Hmm, must be due to me staying up and doing my chem tut last night. Argh! And I didnt get to finish the one on Grp VII la!!

Lectures were somehow relaxed and there was this general air of.. I think I would say tolerance from the teachs today. Was chionging the tut on GP VII in chem lect. Lucky I finished the Gp II one. Mrs Wong kindly (and maybe) intentionally mistook my furious scribbling as a hardworking attempt by a student to copy everything on the slides. Wahaha. Ok, I dont think she duno lo. And when she was asking who dun have the new notes, and in the whole LT, only dear Dz put up his hand, thus drawing her unwanted attention to the device in his ear. Wahaha, and S6A is really funny la. We keep having interesting happenings. Like at about 8.30am during chem lect, ZhiYang, who is not frm S6A but has been recognised to be the fellow latecomer companion of Weiss, strolled into the LT. Weiss was nowhere to be seen lo. If I didnt recall wrongly, he appeared much later. Eeling was the best this time. She came in like, I cant really rmb, 15 min+ into the physics lect, which was after chem lect. I think it is kinda funny, in a dark sadistic way, tt S6A usually, survive these adventures, or rather, misadventures. =)

Those 2 ah. I remember during promos, there was this time when I was really late. I ran from the car to the porch only to see Eeling n Weiss. Then we realised that there is no one else on the first floor. Recalled looking up just in time to see a few late but not as late-as-us-comers going into the hall. The 3 of us took the lift up and while me n eeling were like dashing to the hall, tt cat high guy actually walked and even bent down to tie his shoelaces! Gosh. When we went into the hall, I had this moment of insanity thinking how funny it was that the 3 latecomers were from the same class.

Hmm, being late seem to have its excitement. Maybe I will go try tmr. S6A rocks.
